About Me

Steve Amerige

I’m Steve Amerige, a PhD student in Crop Science at NC State University, working in the Precision Sustainable Agriculture lab. My research focuses on computer vision, simulation, and machine learning—tools that help farmers turn big data from cameras, drones, and satellites into practical decision support.

Before shifting to full-time doctoral research, I spent four decades in software engineering, finishing as a Distinguished Software Developer at SAS Institute. That experience shaped how I approach agricultural research today: as a systems problem that benefits from good design, reproducible methods, and open collaboration.

In addition to my focus on agronomic innovation, I’m a horticultural enthusiast, app developer, speaker, author, and educator who enjoys translating science into practical tools and stories that help others learn, grow, and innovate as well. I also educate audiences as a NC State Extension Master Gardener volunteer.

This site shares the projects, tools, and ideas emerging from that work—where crop science meets computer science, and where innovation is meant to be shared.
